How we can help

Since 2022 when we pivoted away from our mobile veterinary practice, we have been providing financial and logistical support to help people spay and neuter outdoor cats. Between January 2023 and April 2024, we have helped fund over 800 spay and neuter surgeries for outdoor cats. Check our some of our success stories.

History

The Fix Is In, Inc., received its non-profit status in 2009. From January 2010 to May 2012, The Fix Is In offered low-cost spay and neuter services at Spay Days which were staffed entirely by volunteers — the vets and clinic staff all kindly donated their time and skills. Services at these events were restricted to income-qualified families. Also during this time, The Fix Is In partnered with Shelter From the Storm’s Spay Me! Clinic in Sun Prairie. Spay Me! drove their transport van to Rhinelander and picked up pets for surgery. Pets spent two nights at the clinic before returning home after surgery. This service was available to anyone. We are proud to report that more than 1,200 cats and dogs were spayed or neutered through these low-cost options and we are grateful to the many people who helped make these services available.

The Fix Is In (TFII) was a participant in the ASPCA’s National Spay Neuter Project (NSNP) until the program was discontinued in 2014. Through this program TFII, an independent entity, launched a MASH-style (Mobile Animal Spay Neuter Hospital) High Quality/High Volume affordable spay and neuter clinic in July 2012. In July 2012 our clinic team spent one week in New York City working with the ASPCA’s National Spay Neuter Project trainers. Then the trainers came to Wisconsin for 10 days and worked with our team here at our various clinic sites. The goal of training was to teach our team how to effectively and efficiently provide high quality care in a high volume spay and neuter clinic.

Mobile Services History

In 2018, The Fix Is In began transitioning from the MASH model to a mobile surgical unit. Through 2021, the team regularly visited more than 10 counties throughout northern Wisconsin. In 2022, The Fix Is In evolved once again, establishing a stationary clinic in Wausau to continue providing affordable, high quality spay and neuter services while also offering mobile service to properties with large cat colonies.

On July 15, 2022 the clinic closed, due to staffing challenges. We bid farewell to Dr. Gall after three years of service and wished her well as she relocated out of state to work at the ASPCA’s Spay Alliance.

In the 10 year span the clinic operated, 42,450 spay and neuter surgeries were completed on cats and dogs.
